Hyper-Grace: Revisiting the Controversy

Introduction

hyper-graceIn 2014, I wrote my book, “Hyper-Grace: Biblically Confronting Current False-Grace Heresies”, and self-published it on Amazon (including a full text PDF download available on Google Books for free).  It was in response to the rise in various errors and I believe heresies I had seen in the body of Christ, and, after studying for a few years, discussing with various people on both sides of the issue, I felt led to write.

When I wrote the book, it was with some awareness that another, more elder minister had written a book with a similar title, “Hyper-Grace: Exposing the Dangers of the Modern Grace Message”.  Although I had not read all of his book at the time I wrote mine, I have done so in the time since.

My Pilgrimage – A Way out of Porn and into Apostasy

FLR2It almost sounded too good to be true…  Those who worked in the sex-trafficking arena and dealing with people trapped in addictive behaviors were saying it was working.  People were finally starting to get some breakthrough.

To be honest, I was excited when I first saw it.  I saw a glimmer of hope.  Only hope, because, while what they were presenting on the outside was certainly some good language towards some of the deeper things of looking at the heart, I also know the trickery of modern moves of Christianity.

“Therefore All Died” – 2 Corinthians 5:14 – Who died when?

born-again[13] If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. [14] For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. [15] And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

2 Corinthians 5:13-15 NIV

Here in this passage, Paul says that “all died”. This represents the correct translation of the passage, as preferred to the reading of the King James, which holds, “then were all dead”. The King James proves to be an imprecise translation, textually, but what is Paul getting at?

A Grace Whack Responds

door_ajar2It was only a matter of time…  You post articles, you write books, you spend hours some days conversing with them, driving to meet with them, researching their ‘doctrines’.  Eventually, they respond.  I don’t intend to make any sort of a habit of honoring these with responses.  I’ve tried, they’re just generally not interested.  But, for the interest of study, it is sometimes useful to have a field specimen, of sorts.  Occasionally, a piece is worth dissecting publicly, to see what is at work, for the interest of those observing.

As such, the following below is the latest response to my post on Biblically Confronting the False-Grace movement (here).  The comment was too long to publish on that post for one, and, additionally, the format of comment and response does not allow for adequate interaction with the arguments.

But, when you choose to engage, you have to make a decision from the out-set.  Even when studying and countering the religious spirit, you have to set some ground-rules, or boundaries.  It must be agreed upon that if a subject matter is thoroughly proved wrong through a study of Scripture by one party, the other must question their position.  Unfortunately, of every Grace-Whack we’ve ever come across, not one has cared that every point has been thoroughly contested and disproved.

The Coming Glory and Deceiving Spirits

stanley-frodshamProphecy given at Elim Summer Bible Camp – New York in the Summer 1965

By Stanley Frodshams (who had travelled with Smith Wigglesworth)

When I visit My people in mighty revival power it is to prepare them for the darkness that lies ahead. With the glory shall come great darkness. For the glory is to prepare My people for that darkness. I will enable My people to go through because of a mighty visitation of My Spirit. Take heed to yourselves lest you be puffed up and think that you have already arrived. Many shall be puffed up in that hour as in the days of old. For many then did receive My message, but they did not continue in it. Did I not anoint Jehu? And yet the things I desired were not accomplished in his life.

Listen to the messengers that I will send, but do not hold any man’s personality in admiration. For many whom I shall anoint mightily with signs and miracles and wonders shall become lifted up and put upon a pedestal, but they shall fall by the wayside. I do not do this willingly, for I have made provision that they might stand. I call many into this ministry and equip them, but remember many shall fall in that hour. For Babylon shall not stand. They shall be like bright lights, and the people shall delight in their ministries, but they shall be taken over by deceiving spirits and lead many of My people astray.

The Religious Spirit

orneryAnd he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

Mark 8:15

Twice in Deuteronomy (Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32), Moses commanded the people to neither add to, nor take away from what He had said.  There is always the trend among religious folk to do this, as it was then, so it is today, amongst men.

The Finished

Finished
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

James 1:21 KJV

James, writing to Spirit-filled, born-again believers, told them that yes, that they needed to be saved.  That’s right, they needed salvation in their souls.

When we are born-again, made new by the Holy Ghost, we are born-again in our spirits, not our souls.  The Holy Spirit, God Himself, comes into our inner most being, further inside than our soul, and makes us new–we are ‘born again’.  But, that does not make our souls or our bodies born-again in the least.

How to Biblically Confront the Current False Grace Heresies

Update (5/9/2014):

We have recently put together a short book available on Amazon related to confronting the hyper-grace issues in the church today, as summarized here. In this new 200+ page book, we cover topics such as the “Words in Red”, many of the false-grace heresies in circulation today, including inclusion, as well as solid Scriptural support for the truth.

Additionally, because there is a great interest in this topic, and the subject is urgent in many people’s lives, if you cannot purchase one or have any other reason, we have made the entire contents of the book available via PDF online as well.

target-and-arrowThe best way to debate anything is the Word.  The Word is sufficient.  The Word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword.  Anything you need to defend or define must have as its ultimate authority to be God, through His Word, or it will always end in the shifting sands of opinion.

However, when it comes to certain groups, because their doctrine is so far beleaguered and strays so far from the truth of the Word, because its source is still rather narrow, whenever you debate with them, they more or less follow the same basic script.  That’s right.  They don’t rely on the full counsel of the Word, they use a few texts, here or there, pulled and shifted out well beyond reason, and, if you know where they’re trying to go, you stay out of their predictable traps.
